While there are similar initiatives, seeking to support the competitiveness of local wood value chains, in place all over Europe, the Holzforum Allgaeu is exemplary for its fresh take on reinforcing dialogue between stakeholders and ‘thinking outside the box’ when it comes to leveraging innovation in a rather traditional wood community.

How does this Best Practice contribute to sustainable wood mobilisation?
Initiatives like Holzforum Allgaeu support sustainable wood mobilisation in many ways.
For one, communication campaigns promoting the sustainability of local wood are very important to raise awareness for the added benefit of wood mobilisation among the public. Trademarks designating the origin of local wood and highlighting its sustainability, raise understanding for logging in local forests and promote wood as renewable material with an outstanding CO2 balance among end users.
With only limited opportunities for increasing the annual cuts in forests being available - which is the case in most central European countries - boosting innovations contributing to sustainable wood mobilisation from all sources is of key importance. Holzforum Allgaeu creates through activities and projects like the EU INTERREG funded project Inno4Wood an environment, in which innovations bloom and prosper.
