Best Practice & Innovation – Wood Terminals (Finland)
ROSEWOOD4.0 Northern Hub features in this video Finland’s “Wood Terminals” as a best practice from the country’s timber-producing provinces, such as Lapland.
One of the challenges of wood mobilisation is the small-scale timber units that are located at a great distance from the nearest roads. The answer to this challenge, as in Finland, is to build bigger wood terminals where wood from multiple small-scale units would be gathered from the same area for intermediate storage.
These joint wood terminals of forestry companies for short-term timber storage offer several benefits such as cost-effective utilisation of small-scale forestry units, increased efficiency in the transport of timber by rail as well as less environmental effects due to centralised terminals.
